#REPLAY #LoveIsStrongerThanHate: Chris Singleton

Chris Singleton is on a journey with more twists and turns than a roller coaster at Disney World. In three short years, Chris has gone from Goose Creek SC to the Chicago Cubs affiliate Eugene Emeralds. In between he lost his beloved mother, Sharonda Coleman-Singleton, in a heinous church massacre and his dad, Chris Sr, to a broken heart and got engaged to his sweetheart Mariana who blessed Chris with a baby son, Chris Jr. Wow!

Chris, Mariana, his fiance, and young Chris Jr will all be in Chicago for the CSA 2017 Awards dinner. Chris will be honored with the Charlie Donovan Memorial “Passion for the Game” award. God bless them. Listen to our interview:

David  Meade, Mike Liedtke and Chris Leathers at Your World Fitness in Spring Grove

Spring Grove, IL- bergsworld.live had a blast doing our #ProfessorOfGoodFitness series this summer. We met Alex Kube of Elite 7 in East Dundee and Dave Davis of Davis Speed Center located in Crystal Lake. Our next chapter in the series on local fitness gurus is Johnsburg HS and Carthage College alum Chris Leathers. Leathers owns and runs Your World Fitness in Spring Grove.

We caught up with Chris during a normal week for the 29 year old whirling dervish. Our interview with Chris was so cool that we made it into two parts. Part one covers a personal tour of his 15,000 plus square foot facility and some great conversation.

Your World Fitness has over 1100 members including 60 patrons who take advantage of the Private Personal Training Room. Leathers employs over 30 people which includes six Personal Trainers. YWF offers zumba, aerobic, senior fitness, power lifting and much more. They have a private spin bike studio. They offer deep tissue massage from a licensed therapist. It is all quite incredible considering the business is only six years old.

Chris has some very successful customers from NFL players (CJ Fiedorowicz of the Houston Texans and Mike Liedtke who plays for the NY Jets), to DI college standout athletes and many high school kids chasing their dreams. YWF has clientele that includes the very young (they offer babysitting service) to the seasoned citizen. Throw in a CEO of a mega million dollar company (Rick Boutilier of Intermatic) and you pretty much get the picture, Chris Leathers and Your World Fitness does it all!

Having just signed an exclusive corporate deal with McDonald’s Distribution Centers, the buzz and excitement were palpable as we watched, conversed and intermingled with Chris, his employees and his customers. One big, happy and excited family.

#CoachSeries R-B’s Pat Elder: A Family Affair

IMG_7357 (1)

Richmond, IL- I had always respected and wanted to meet Richmond-Burton High School Athletic Director and football Head Coach Pat Elder. I was very impressed with his successful teams and the Rockets rushing attack that seemed to run roughshod over their opponents year after year.  R-B had multiple deep runs in the IHSA 4A state playoffs and Elder was widely known as a great guy. When I met him this summer, it was a chance encounter

bergsworld.live was down in Bloomington, Illinois June 18th to cover the Shrine/ Illinois Coaches Association All Star Game at Tucci Stadium on the gorgeous campus of Illinois Wesleyan University. As I walked from side to side taking pictures, I stopped and asked two gentlemen if I could interview them. It was Pat Elder and his father John. Here is that interview…

Cool video from Richmond_Burton HS:

We headed out to Richmond last month and had our second, more in depth interview with Coach Elder. He was very kind to spend time with us on a busy summer day to talk family, football and many other interesting subjects. Pull up a lawn chair and a cool libation and listen to a local coaching legend tell it like it is. Editors Note: Coach missed Rocket alum and current Penn State volleyball super star Ali Frantti when naming great Rocket athletes. He insisted I add her to this story.

Loving the Grind: Alex Kube and Elite 7

East Dundee, IL- bergsworld.live was honored to spend some time with Alex Kube and Ian Gardeck at the Elite 7 Training facility in East Dundee, Illinois. Check out their website http://elite7sports.com/trainers/alex-kube-elite-7-owner/ for a closer look at Elite 7. Kube, former Cary-Grove, Northern Illinois University football star is the owner of Elite 7. Kube also had multiple tryouts with NFL teams in his quest to follow his dream of playing in the NFL. Now, Kube instructs and teaches his athletes the ins and outs of professional life and what it takes to succeed. Listen to Alex tell us a little about himself and his experiences:

One of the new clients at Elite 7 is the Judson University http://www.judsoneagles.com   women’s softball team coached by Western Illinois alumnus and ex-Chicago Bandit player Venus Taylor. Watch Taylor, Batts, Gardeck and Wright instruct the Judson players at Elite 7:

Gardeck and Billy Wright, both former players for Crystal Lake South HS baseball head coach Brian Bogda, work at Elite 7 with Kube. Gardeck is heading off to Arizona to get some work done before the SF Giants open their 2016 Spring Training in Scottsdale, Arizona. Scottsdale Stadium is the home for the Giants Spring Training and is the fall league ball park. Gardeck was recently added to the Giants 40 man roster.

No one knows what the future holds for Kube, Gardeck and Elite 7 but it sure looks very bright. As the song goes, “I gotta wear shades.” Good luck and may God bless them both.
