David  Meade, Mike Liedtke and Chris Leathers at Your World Fitness in Spring Grove

Spring Grove, IL- bergsworld.live had a blast doing our #ProfessorOfGoodFitness series this summer. We met Alex Kube of Elite 7 in East Dundee and Dave Davis of Davis Speed Center located in Crystal Lake. Our next chapter in the series on local fitness gurus is Johnsburg HS and Carthage College alum Chris Leathers. Leathers owns and runs Your World Fitness in Spring Grove.

We caught up with Chris during a normal week for the 29 year old whirling dervish. Our interview with Chris was so cool that we made it into two parts. Part one covers a personal tour of his 15,000 plus square foot facility and some great conversation.

Your World Fitness has over 1100 members including 60 patrons who take advantage of the Private Personal Training Room. Leathers employs over 30 people which includes six Personal Trainers. YWF offers zumba, aerobic, senior fitness, power lifting and much more. They have a private spin bike studio. They offer deep tissue massage from a licensed therapist. It is all quite incredible considering the business is only six years old.

Chris has some very successful customers from NFL players (CJ Fiedorowicz of the Houston Texans and Mike Liedtke who plays for the NY Jets), to DI college standout athletes and many high school kids chasing their dreams. YWF has clientele that includes the very young (they offer babysitting service) to the seasoned citizen. Throw in a CEO of a mega million dollar company (Rick Boutilier of Intermatic) and you pretty much get the picture, Chris Leathers and Your World Fitness does it all!

Having just signed an exclusive corporate deal with McDonald’s Distribution Centers, the buzz and excitement were palpable as we watched, conversed and intermingled with Chris, his employees and his customers. One big, happy and excited family.

Alex Kube Founder and Creator of Elite 7

Lake in the Hills, IL- I have gotten to know Alex Kube and have found him to be a sincere and generous young man. Kube surely would have been a #YoungGun if I had access to a time machine like Rod Taylor ( IMDb: The Time Machine ). Kube is Cary-Grove HS and Northern Illinois University coached and trained and is without a doubt one of our area’s most successful athletes. He had a couple of opportunities with the NFL (Bears and Vikings) and played in the Arena Football league (Rush).

Join us as we caught up with Alex and his wife Elizabeth as they were returning from a family gathering recently. We discussed his big position change at NIU, a move that had a rippling effect on his football future. Never a complainer, Alex explains the thought process that went into his move from safety to strong side linebacker. We talk about his family and what he sees as his mission for Elite 7 and the young men he works with.

#CoachSeries R-B’s Pat Elder: A Family Affair

IMG_7357 (1)

Richmond, IL- I had always respected and wanted to meet Richmond-Burton High School Athletic Director and football Head Coach Pat Elder. I was very impressed with his successful teams and the Rockets rushing attack that seemed to run roughshod over their opponents year after year.  R-B had multiple deep runs in the IHSA 4A state playoffs and Elder was widely known as a great guy. When I met him this summer, it was a chance encounter

bergsworld.live was down in Bloomington, Illinois June 18th to cover the Shrine/ Illinois Coaches Association All Star Game at Tucci Stadium on the gorgeous campus of Illinois Wesleyan University. As I walked from side to side taking pictures, I stopped and asked two gentlemen if I could interview them. It was Pat Elder and his father John. Here is that interview…

Cool video from Richmond_Burton HS:

We headed out to Richmond last month and had our second, more in depth interview with Coach Elder. He was very kind to spend time with us on a busy summer day to talk family, football and many other interesting subjects. Pull up a lawn chair and a cool libation and listen to a local coaching legend tell it like it is. Editors Note: Coach missed Rocket alum and current Penn State volleyball super star Ali Frantti when naming great Rocket athletes. He insisted I add her to this story.

The Nazareth Four: Brothers in Arms

LaGrange Park, IL- I always look forward to visiting Nazareth Academy in LaGrange Park. It reminds me of my high school days when I attended Fenwick HS in Oak Park. A big difference is Fenwick was boys only while Nazareth is coed. Otherwise, the atmospheres are pretty similar.

The Roadrunners have built quite a football program in recent years as well as currently adding new construction to expand their campus on Ogden Avenue. Head coach Tim Racki is the main architect of the football programs renaissance and I’m not really sure who is behind the new construction’s design. Both are looking pretty, pretty good.

Coach Racki was kind enough to let bergsworld.live sit down and talk with Devonte’ Dunn, Christian Sampleton, Justin Weller and Cameron Weems. All are juniors who played pivotal roles in the 2015 IHSA 5A state championship and look to “3 Peat” in the 2016 season. Listen as they discuss God, family, school and football. Thanks gentlemen, it was our pleasure.

LISTEN to Dunn, Sampleton, Weller and Weems in a very candid interview:

The Nazareth Four added quite nicely to their football resumes in the 2015 championship season. Roadrunner fans saw them go 12-2 while putting an asterisk on the campaign with a thumping of a very good New Lenox Lincoln-Way West HS team in the final, 42-21. Personal awards followed: Dunn and Sampleton were All-East Suburban Catholic Conference selections. While Weller shared the MVP of the finals with current Oswego East HS running back Ivory Kelly-Martin.

A key part of the Naz Four’s development and journey to Nazareth Academy came from playing with the Patriots Youth Travel Football program. Doug DiFusco, is a head coach of the Patriots and an assistant to Coach Racki at Nazareth. DiFusco points to the important roles Dunn, Sampleton, Weller and Weems played on the 2012 PYTF 14U All American National Championship Team. All four young men showed everyone that watched this 2012 juggernaut dominate their opponents, that they would develop into top high school players. And they did. The Naz Four speak very highly of the time they spent participating with the PYTF program.
